Quick update with pictures.. Basically scouts are done, based - I may make the snow a bit deeper but will see, and shading on the black is now done.. 2 Grey Hunters are done, one based.. Both need Pauldrons and Back pack.. A third is highlighted and 4 and 5 are base coated..
All in all pretty pleased with the results, the zig zag pattern on the chainsword will require a lot of practice but first attempt not too bad.. Also marine eyes were done highlighted for the first time, not as hard as I thought!! Now for some pics.

First Grey Hunter is done (albeit without backpack and pauldrons). Will edit this post later to go through some of the details, in short really pleased with how easy it was..

Scouts Finished - almost
Took a few weeks but here are the first scouts finished. I say finished, all I need to do is codex grey highlight the black weapons and get some stuff to base them properly. I bought some snow but didn't realise I should put some sand or something underneath that. Toying with using play sand as we have that in spades (no pun intended)..
Onwards to the Grey Hunters... Looking forward to them!! Hope I can do them justice..

Inspiration
As an aside, here is the hound that these guys are based upon.. She is called Storm, her colourings are darker now she is bigger, and she has an appetite for eating walls...

Scouts unit
The first unit of the new army was to be the scouts - 5 to be precise. Sadly the Space Wolves kits are lacking meltaguns but I decided (and in my haste) to make 5 normal scouts regardless and swap one out for a melta in the next batch.
The think I like about the space wolves are the variety of heads, some are a bit too wild (most of my army will be of the helmet variety) but it did give the scouts a good look (appears everyone has the same idea on the net too so this is good). Keen to get going there isn't too much modding after that, I did think about axes rather than blades but that would have slowed me down as I would buy yet more stuff..
So what else to note, ah yes the banner.. In the vast amount of bits are various banners, one I have chosen to act as the Mark of the Wulfen another as a Wolf Banner. Two reasons for this really, one I wasn't sure I wanted to mod wulfen features too much as my Green Stuff skills are yet to be tested and two I now have flexibility when playing - they can either have that ability or it can just be decoration. As much as I would love models for every occasion they aren't cheap so saving a few quid here and there is definitely a good thing (especially when I am needed missile launchers for the long fangs at some point).
One thing that I did do before spraying, because I bought the tools mainly, was drill out the barrels on the bolt pistols, one slipped but they look awesome..
If I get some green stuff at some point these guys will likely have some large wolf pelt cloaks, they are elites after all!!

A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.
So in my haste I may have made a few blunders with the battleforce. Mainly fully building the drop pod before painting. Not a big deal but wont get as much detail in this one as the next. We live and learn.
The other models on the other hand are ok, I may regret fixing some arms in place, but the next batch will have learnt from that mistake.
To start the painting off I found a few models to do some prep on. Lets just say its been a while since I've painted so didn't want to mess things up.
Not the greatest quality of photo but basically the one on the right used space wolf grey, the one on the left was more shadow grey. I preferred the darker model but felt it lacked the space wolves feel (not gritty enough for pre-heresy, not light enough for modern colours). In the end I did a third model that was fenris grey -> badab wash -> 50:50 fenris grey:spacewolves grey -> 50:50 shadow grey:spacewolves grey. This came out really well so I stuck with it, deciding the first unit to be painted would be the scouts.

The Beginning
Ok so back into the hobby as I was told I needed to chill and do something I enjoy doing.. Had been thinking about getting back into 40K for a while so took the plunge..
So first question what and why? I have a small contingent of Tau that I could build up, but wanted something with a bit more showcase, so will build them up later..
We recently got a puppy, shes a Northern Inuit (A wolf look breed) so naturally this lead me to look at Space Wolves. After seeing the variety of models on offer this was clearly a winner and promptly purchased a battle force to get me started.
Hopefully this blog is to record their journey from mere plastic to mean killing machines (hopefully well modelled and painted!).
So into the warp we go...
Caveat: This site is a blog all copyrights belong to their various owners etc. etc.
